Plans for the £20 million overhaul of Carlisle Airport were been given the go ahead for Stobart Group’s proposals for a massive freight distribution centre and revamped runway.
Phase One of the airport’s redevelopment will see work on the runway completed to allow scheduled passenger flights to London Southend and Dublin, and partial construction of a 394,000sq ft freight distribution centre.
Three units at the north-eastern end and associated staff parking will follow later. Minor changes to the internal layout and eastern elevation are also planned.
